Artist: Vangjush Vellahu
.
Vangjush Vellahu is an Albanian visual artist that lives and works in Berlin.
He studied the University of Arts in Bucharest and Kiel and is part of the group Nucleu 0000 since the beginning. His artistic practice is based on his own past between 1990-2000 in Albania and the way he relates to recent history. Vangjush focuses on exploring aspects of collective memory and simultaneously approaches urbanization as a phenomenon that changes communities in an ideological and also a physical sense. More than an urban metamorphosis, he focuses on how the ideological and political agendas change borders, territories, and collective consciousness and how masses of people tend to consign to oblivion recent historical facts and assimilate and engage with the new contemporary issues.
Home Conversations is a video documentary presented as an installation, realized at Impuls factory in Dilijan, Armenia. The factory is one of many telecommunication factories constructed in the USSR, belonging to the Ministry of Telecommunication and the series of interviews offer an inside perspective coming from former employees. They talk about the social and economic changes before and after the declaration of independence of Armenia in 1991. These interviews are the beginnings of an oral archive – a living archive – in which the past is transmitted through personal experience.
