Serotonin 2 (innosins)

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, or 5-HT) is a monoamine neurotransmitter synthesised in serotonergic neurons in the central nervous system and enterochromaffin cells in the gastrointestinal tract.

Serotonin is believed to play an important part of the biochemistry of depression, migraine, bipolar disorder and anxiety. It is also believed to be influential on sexuality and appetite.

Serotonergic defficience:

***Studies show that low levels of the brain chemical serotonin can in part lead to an overall insensitivity to future consequences, setting off impulsive and aggressive behaviors and perhaps culminating in suicide.

Serotonergic excess:

***The symptoms of the serotonin syndrome are: euphoria, drowsiness, sustained rapid eye movement, overreaction of the reflexes, rapid muscle contraction and relaxation in the ankle causing abnormal movements of the foot, clumsiness, restlessness, feeling drunk and dizzy, muscle contraction and relaxation in the jaw, sweating, intoxication, muscle twitching, rigidity, high body temperature, mental status changes were frequent (including confusion and hypomania - a "happy drunk" state), shivering, diarrhea, loss of consciousness and death.
(The Serotonin Syndrome, AM J PSYCHIATRY, June 1991)

I started from the idea that a certain type of basic disposition (determined here by certain “chemical percents”) creates a certain kind of reaction in different given situations.

My primary interest is directed towards that sensitive “chemical percentage” which results into developing a particular type of reflexive, introspective, self-referential attitude. This particular attitude is able to push the conscience of the self beyond the limits while establishing a bitonal relationship between the individual and the others, between the individual and the space.

SEROTONIN is a serial, a “work in progress” following (in the context discussed above) different identities and paradoxal relationships among people.

“SEROTONIN 2 # inosins” is the second episode in this serial that narrates about the impossibility of preserving the pure innocence of our childhood. The effort, the attempt of recovering our innocence, make everything looks artificial and absurd.
